LOL at the headphones-as-microphone trick. I can't even begin to count how many times I've used it. I wouldn't want to get ambient room noises, though. It's mostly PC fans going "WHIIRRRRRRRRRR!!" But, it occurred to me, he could have been saying "gawk" . . . if it weren't so clearly "cock." :) Reno: looks like a nice package deal. Very convenient to have a USB mic. But, sometimes I think it would be nice to have a VST platform for all the freeware/shareware plug-ins out there. Pro Tools RTAS plugs make life a bit more expensive to expand (but, I already have most of what I could ever want). Audacity is a great free program. I use it to play most music files on my laptop. I also use it to record music ideas on my laptop. I plug my headphones into the mic jack, and use them as a mic (can't be bothered to walk down into the studio and grab a real mic). I agree: omni mic would obviously be good for multiple guests, or if you're recording a couple of singers for a backing vox track. Or, if you just want to record more of the ambient "room" sound.
