Prayer is really the power of positive thinking...so if it healed the guy, right on. More power to him.

I covered this on Fundie Week day 1, but I don't mind reiterating it here: I make a distinction between them at certain levels. The main distinction is between Protestants and Catholics, then my sub-distinction between Protestants and Fundamentalists. I'm talking specifically about the fundamentalists, as mentioned in the first post of fundie week: http://blargen.com/blog/2008/04/07/fundie-week-a-secular-view/

Do I tend to lump fundies together in one group? You bet I do. I allow that there are exceptions, as well as the admission that not all Christians are fundies. If anything, I defend normal Christians against fundamentalists.

Anyway, towards the end of that article I accurately note that even though fundamentalists are the ones acting this way, they're not the only ones who get a bad rap for it. In other words, we agree on this point. The reason I even brought it up was to prod other Christians into doing something about it.

Anyway, that's why fundie week is a series. It's to be taken as a whole. Maybe I should have clarified that.

An awful lot of generalities here postsimian. I know where you are coming from, I have been there. The distinction between different Christians is important. You seem to muddle them up into one group and treat them all alike. That isn't entirely fair. Many of the mainline faiths do accept evolution, a billions of years old universe, maybe a big bang... they don't take the Bible literally.

There is a brewing 'civil war' within the Christian faith. You have the evangelical fundamentalists, baptists in particular, point fingers at other Christians demanding they assume the same positions and beliefs. They question others commitment to their faith. This bullying puts many many people into a very uncomfortable position. If you are a true Christian you would adopt the more radical views or be labeled a secularist, which is akin to an atheist from the fundamentalist viewpoint. This has muddled things up even within particular denominations as people succumb to the pressure. I think you would find many folks are quite moderate in their outlook or just indifferent. These tirades can put them on the defensive much the same way that the evangelical fundamentalists do.

Fundies know. There is no point in arguing, debating or discussing the matter.

Tim--about your healing of intestinal blockage: was this you that had the intestinal blockage or were you the healer? Or did you, perhaps, heal yourself? If the latter is the case, are you a qualified medical doctor that has the skills to treat such an unfortunate malady, or was one involved in this case? Some intestinal blockages do correct themselves with little to no treatment, as well. If the blockage was indeed severe, I have trouble believing that it would have resolved itself without medical treatment.

Inquiring minds want to know.
