Q. A rules page for a blog? Is that really necessary?

A. I didn’t think so either, at first.

Q. So what kinds of rules are we talking about here?

A. Just general guidelines for leaving comments, nothing major.

Q. Don’t be rude, no flaming, things like that?

A. Right, basically. People are welcome to come here to discuss their ideas with me or each other as long as they keep it relatively civil. I’ll try to hold myself to the same standards, but if somebody is being a major dumbass, I’m going to tell them. It’s a perk.

Q. Specifically, what things are off limits for the rest of us?

A. Wantonly insulting one another; making threats towards each other; spamming; trolling. And please try to leave comments that are relevant to the post you’re replying to.

Q. What if things get off-topic?

A. I realize this is something that happens. When it does, it does. It’s one of the realities of having comments enabled. What I’m more concerned about is intentional derailing, or as has often been the case, replying with a topic that has nothing to do with the original post or any responses in the comment section.

Q. Are you against open discussions?

A. I’m all for open discussions, but this is not a forum. If you want to have open discussions, visit peoriaspeaks.com and sign up.

Q. So… I heard you get pissed when people disagree with you.

A. Whoever told you that is a spineless liar. Disagree with me all you want, just don’t come here to start trouble. If you can explain why you disagree or why the other side’s position on the topic is wrong, even better! It makes for good discussion.

However, If you come here and post a bunch of links to stories that have nothing to do with anything anybody is talking about and use them as “proof” that the liberal ideology is wrong, you might as well just take down the whole website. To do this, on your keyboard, hold the Alt key and press F4.

Q. I still don’t get it.

A. Let me put it this way. Excellent things: sharing ideas, discussion, structured arguments. Bogus things: trolls, spammers.
